Cometic Solutions

At Dominion Dental Spa, our goal is to help all of our patients achieve the smile of their dreams.  We believe that almost every aspect of dentistry falls under the category of cosmetic dentistry if it leaves a tooth (or the entire smile) more beautiful than it was to begin with.

All Dentistry Can Be Cosmetic Dentistry

A tooth colored filling gives a more cosmetic result than old mercury fillings.  A porcelain crown looks more natural than a broken down tooth with cracks and decay.  A dental implant is a cosmetic alternative for replacing missing teeth.

We know that these examples are not what most people think of when they consider cosmetic dentistry.  We strive to make all of our dentistry cosmetic.

Cosmetic Dentistry at Dominion Dental Spa

In addition to tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, and dental implants, we offer several procedures specifically for cosmetic improvements to your smile.

The simplest, most conservative way to cosmetically improve your smile is by whitening the teeth.  When teeth are not properly aligned, Invisalign orthodontic treatment straightens them into a beautiful smile.

Teeth Whitening and Invisalign are described in detail on their own individual pages.

Porcelain Veneers

For some patients, whitening and straightening the teeth does not achieve their cosmetic goals.  For a more complete smile makeover, porcelain veneers are the option to choose.

A porcelain veneer completely covers the visible surface of a tooth and gives the tooth a new appearance.  A typical smile makeover consists of 6-8 porcelain veneers on the upper front teeth.

Veneers cover up minor misalignments and discolorations.  They are also able to change the shape and size of teeth.  Porcelain veneers restore broken down or chipped front teeth back to their original size and shape, or to a new desired size and shape.

How Do Porcelain Veneers Work?

A veneer recreates the outer layer of a tooth.  Your dentist prepares the tooth by removing some enamel to make room for the thickness of the porcelain veneer.  The amount of enamel removed is determined by how big of a change the porcelain veneers are making to a tooth.  A big change in color or position requires more porcelain, and therefore, it requires the removal of more enamel.

A skilled dental lab technician makes the porcelain veneers in a dental lab from an exact model of your prepared teeth.  During this process, you wear a set of provisional veneers that are temporarily attached to your teeth.  This provisional period lasts about 3-4 weeks.

After the lab returns your porcelain veneers to the dentist, you return for the final placement of the veneers.  At this visit, your dentist removes the provisional veneers, cleans the teeth, and permanently attaches the individual porcelain veneers to each tooth.  Then you are ready to show off your beautiful new smile!

There are some post-operative precautions you need to take with porcelain veneers, such as not using your front teeth for anything besides chewing and wearing a nightguard if you clench or grind your teeth.  Dr. Sri and Dr. McCue will give you specific, detailed instructions on how to care for your new smile.

What Is The Most Important Thing to Know About Porcelain Veneers?

Communication is key!  There are many differing opinions on what constitutes a beautiful smile.  At Dominion Dental Spa, we do not treat every patient the same.  We aim to meet your specific, individual cosmetic goals.

In order to give you the smile you want, good communication is a must!  We will ask you questions about the color of your dream smile (not everyone wants the whitest shade possible).  We will discuss the different options in tooth shape and size that fit the shape and size of your face.  If there is a specific look you prefer, try to find a photo showing the most beautiful smile you can find.

The better we understand your specific goals, the more effectively and efficiently we will be able to meet them.
